Bio: About Rick Burress

As one of the three original Apple-certified consultants nationally, Rick has been a part of the desktop publishing revolution since its inception, in 1987. He trains Design and Photography Superstars—current and up-and-coming. He was asked by industry professionals to rewrite curricula to better meet the actual needs of industry in this evermore digital era. His three created courses helped earn the Scottsdale Community College Graphic Design team the coveted Frederick D. Kagy International Award for Excellence.

Rick also co-created the new standards for the State of Arizona's K-12 educational system for Graphic Arts. Each Summer, Rick “teaches the teachers” how to better instruct our future design stars using those standards.

He has been a copywriter, artist, illustrator, ad agency creative director, television sales rep, marketing director, print salesman, consultant, trainer and author. He currently consults, writes for, and trains design superstars, sales professionals, artists, advertising agencies, magazine publishers, and Fortune 500 companies, such as Apple Computer, Adobe Systems, Rapp Worldwide, AT&T, Grand Canyon University, and Tivity Health. He works as a consultant and lecturer, and was an Adjunct Professor at Scottsdale Community College teaching InDesign, Digital Color Theory, and Digital Photography, Post-processing, &  Adobe Illustrator.

Rick was Emcee and conference interviewer for Phoenix Design Week at the Phoenix Convention Center in 2019, #phxdw, #AIGA,

He has trained the graphic teams of The Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, The Houston Astros, Arizona State University, The Art Institute of Milwaukee, AIGA (the American Institute of Graphic Arts,) and the Printing Industries of Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. He brought many large agencies into the digital era, including Evansgroup/Publicis, and Rapp Worldwide.

Rick has served on the Board of Directors for the Arizona Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and currently serves on the Scottsdale Community College Graphic Arts Occupational Advisory Board. He formed the Arizona Chapter of the Adobe User Group which he Directed for 11 years, and is also a board member for the Graphic Communication Education Foundation. In addition to his monthly retainer clients and ad hoc workshops, Rick also teaches “Listening Skills” workshops for small group leaders—most notably the Alpha Organization. He is an Adobe Certified Expert (ACE) and “Top Contributor” on their forums. His online courses in Photoshop, Adobe Bridge, and Adobe Camera Raw are available on www.BPSOP.com, the Bryan Peterson School of Photography. These courses repeat monthly.
